Our Story

Dan and Becky can trace their history of farming and growing things back over 40 years. Becky grew up helping her parents plant and grow flowers at their home in Bakersfield, CA. Dan’s first business venture was a landscape maintenance business and a gardener at two different hospitals. Dan and Becky will even tell you that their friendship was solidified and turned to love when Dan planted a garden on her parents’ property!

After they married, they moved to Tehachapi, CA and ran a flower shop for 4 years, while buying and living on a lilac farm for almost 25 years. Their two kids grew up helping to prune, water, and harvest close to 10 acres of lilacs, selling them to tourists, florists, and at farmers’ markets.

When they made the move to Washington in 2007, Dan researched what would grow well in the acidic soil of their 4 acre property – blueberries! He also investigated what would be the best type for our weather patterns, and to have it be “you pick.” That led to 300 Duke plants, and 600 Liberty plants. There was a lot of field preparation, weed block to lay down, holes to dig, and then the 2 year old plants went in the ground in the Spring of 2008. We also planted other produce and flowers, waiting for the berries to get bigger and productive.

After about 4 years, there were enough blueberries that we could sell them at our roadside stand, farmers’ market, and have some people come and pick their own. We backed off the produce growing, concentrating mainly on blueberries, some raspberries, and flowers. The farm continues to evolve and now our kids and grand kids have come alongside to help. Our focus is turning more and more to blueberry production, and the use of the beautifully planted farm area for small events such as intimate weddings, rehearsal dinners, family reunions, and special parties.
